France's unemployment rate climbed to 7.4% in the third quarter of 2024, slightly up from 7.3% in the previous quarter and in line with market expectations.
France jobless rate increases in third quarter
The total number of unemployed individuals increased by 35,000 from the previous period, reaching 2.3 million. Among age groups, unemployment among those aged 15 to 24 saw a sharp rise, increasing by 1.8 percentage points to 19.7%. In contrast, the rate decreased slightly to 6.6% for those aged 25 to 49 and to 4.7% for those 50 and older.
Male rate higher than female one
Gender-wise, the unemployment rate for men rose by 0.3 percentage points to 7.6%, while the rate for women dipped by 0.2 percentage points to 7.2%. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate rose to 74.8%, marking a 0.3 percentage point increase over the previous quarter.
