Japan's unemployment rate was 2.4% in September 2024, down from the consensus, and August's rate was 2.5%.

This marks the lowest level since January, with the number of unemployed individuals decreasing by 40,000 to a 20-month low of 1.68 million. Employment also declined by 90,000, totaling 67.82 million. The labor force decreased by 120,000 to 69.49 million, while those not participating in the labor force increased by 160,000 to 40.37 million.

Labor force participation rate in Japan rises to 63.5% in September

The non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate rose to 63.5% in September, up from 63.3% in the same month last year. Additionally, the jobs-to-applications ratio increased to 1.24 in September, slightly exceeding expectations and the previous figure of 1.23.
