Japan industrial output back to decline in August

According to revised figures from the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Japan experienced a decline in industrial production and shipments in August after an increase in July.
The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for August was reported at 99.7 points, reflecting a 3.3% decrease from July. The initial index indicated a drop of 4.9% to 91.4 compared to August 2023.
In contrast, the seasonally adjusted index had risen by 3.1% month-on-month and 2.9% year-on-year in July.
Shipments also fell, declining by 4.1% from July and 6.5% compared to the same period last year, after an increase of 2.7% month-on-month and 2.0% year-on-year in July.
Additionally, the unadjusted production capacity index was recorded at 97.3 points, down 0.3% from July and 1.0% from August 2023.
