Japan's trade surplus saw a significant drop in September compared to August but remained higher than the surplus recorded in the same month last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday.

The trade surplus decreased to JPY294.34 billion (approximately USD1.97 billion) in September, down from JPY703.20 billion in August. However, this was an improvement over the JPY60.56 billion surplus seen in September 2023.


Export and import grew

Exports grew by 7.2% to JPY9.038 trillion in September, up from JPY8.433 trillion in August, though this was still 1.7% lower than the JPY9.199 trillion recorded in September 2023.


Imports rose 2.1% to JPY9.332 trillion in September, up from JPY9.137 trillion in August, and were 2.1% higher compared to JPY9.138 trillion in September 2023.
