Istat reported on Thursday that Italy's trade balance in August was a surplus of €1.43 billion, up from €6.81 billion in July.

The energy deficit decreased to €4.12 billion €4.56 billion the year before. The surplus in non-energy trade fell from €6.52 billion in August 2023 to €5.55 billion this year.


The monthly increase in exports results from an increase in the non-EU area of 1.3% and a reduction in the EU area of ​​0.7%.


Among the sectors that contribute most to the downward trend in exports are means of transport, excluding motor vehicles, which account for 35%, coke, and refined petroleum products for 33%, motor vehicles for 36%, and machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere for 6.7%.

Pharmaceutical and sporting goods exports surge, food and chemicals see modest growth

Exports of pharmaceutical, chemical-medicinal, and botanical articles increased on an annual basis by over 11%; sporting goods, games, musical instruments, precious metals, medical instruments, and other products by 25%; food products, beverages, and tobacco up by 2.3% and chemical substances and products with 1.7%.
