Pound Sterling gained ground against major currencies early Wednesday, bolstered by stronger-than-expected inflation figures for October. The UK’s Office for National Statistics reported an annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase to 2.3%, up from 1.7% in September, surpassing market expectations. Core CPI, which excludes volatile components like food and energy, climbed to 3.3%, beating forecasts of 3.1%. On a monthly basis, CPI rose by 0.6%, while the Retail Price Index surged to an annual rate of 3.4%, up from 2.7% in the previous month.

These upbeat data points lifted GBP/USD above 1.2700 during early European trading, reinforcing the Pound’s recovery. As the market assesses these figures, investor attention is turning to upcoming speeches from Bank of England (BoE) policymakers, as their insights will shape expectations for future monetary decisions.

Geopolitical tensions continue to influence broader market sentiment. Reports of Ukraine striking deep into Russian territory using long-range US-supplied missiles have added to the cautious market tone. However, the US Dollar has held its ground, buoyed by safe-haven demand, with the Dollar Index inching higher.

Gold prices remain under pressure after reaching a one-week high of $2,640 before easing to around $2,630. Meanwhile, EUR/USD trades narrowly below 1.0600, as investors await European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde's remarks at a key financial stability conference.

Market participants are also eyeing the Federal Reserve’s outlook, with Chair Jerome Powell and other members scheduled to speak later this week. In the absence of major data releases today, their commentary will likely influence the trajectory of risk-sensitive assets and currency pairs.

The British Pound’s strong performance highlights the market’s reaction to inflationary pressures. As central banks remain in focus, the interplay between inflation dynamics and monetary policy decisions will continue to drive currency movements in the coming days.
